Walnut MCM Dresser with Warm White Accents

I am a huge wood grain fan and when I find MCM pieces which usually are walnut wood I am thrilled to give them an update. This 6 drawer dresser did not disappoint. The warm white and wood combo is always a favorite of mine. How about you?

The theme for The Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest™ 's June contest is "Coastal Inspirations" sponsored by Saltwash. When I first heard about Saltwash I wanted to give it a go as one of my favorite things is a tropical beach and this product embodies that. Once I started thinking of projects to try it on I got a bit more concerned. I prefer the smaller scale pieces that can add a beachy vibe subtly. I chose to do a serving tray and large mirror, both pieces will add just the right amount of costal inspiration to any décor.
 the chosen pieces sans cleaning
 everything organized ready to roll
I found the saltwash mixed in the paint easily but it was a guessing game as to consistency. It will depend on type of paint, fluidity of said paint and also your room temperature too. I kept adding till I got what I thought was good but it was still a bit to soft but it seems I made enough for a large dresser. I suggest making smaller batches next time.
Being a bit softer I did not have to smooth my peaks down but rather I continued to peak them up as the paint dried, once both pieces had a solid coating I left them to dry well overnight.
the next morning I randomly brushed on a dark navy
the serving tray would be my initial project to tweak the mirror when ready
The navy did not take long to dry so was soon followed by a full coat of turquoise
And then a dry brushing of green/blue
Then the fun part.. sanding!! I started with a sponge sanding block followed by 120 grit orbital sander to reveal the perfect coastal colors! I gave it a quick coat of poly sealer to deepen them all.

Happy with the results I repeated the process on the large mirror
up to the full coat, no light blue/green
 then sanded it down too

and put on clear coat of poly
the poly made it too shiny so the mirror too got wash of blue/green milk paint then waxed clear and buffed to a soft shine

Once new sleek handles were put on the tray and rubber feet, both pieces were buffed and shined and ready to be staged, here they are!
