Elegant MCM Tallboy in Cast Iron Black with Natural Wood Accents

Elevate your space with this exquisitely reimagined Mid-Century Modern tallboy chest. Once bearing a pale, dated finish, it now stuns in a rich cast iron black, beautifully contrasted by solid wood drawers finished in a warm, natural stain. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated—from the elegantly updated black hardware to the refined moldings and drawer groove accents. Smooth-gliding feet have been added for effortless movement across both hardwood and carpet. Measuring 34" W x 17.5" D x 40.5" H, this sophisticated piece offers both function and timeless style—an instant statement in any well-appointed room.

Classic Black Wood and Glass Coffee

This wooden coffee table with a beveled glass top was in excellent condition, but it was ready for a fresh, modern update. A coat of classic black gave it the perfect contemporary touch, bringing new life to a timeless piece.

This is a similar coffee table but not the actual one in its before state.

This is the sellers photo which doesn't capture before very well but it was in excellent condition and a great score.

After it was cleaned with the spray version of white lightning cleaner then wiped again with a clean damp cloth the edges, all surfaces were scuff sanded with a sanding sponge. This gives the paint a bit of texture to adhere too as well as smoothes and dings on the edges nice and smooth.

After sanding it was damp wiped again to remove any sanding dust.

Using a flat medium synthetic brush I brushed on the anchor Dixie Belle silk mineral paint. This size brush worked really well for the legs and edges. I always start with a piece upside down or in this case on its side to have easy access to the legs as well as paint the underside edges for a professional finish.

The top was removed as was the knobs before painting. The underside of the top was done in one coat of the anchor silk mineral paint then flipped over to do the top side. I love to use paint pyramids to hold up pieces like this and allow it to dry well with no marks as the pyramid points fit in the screw holes. The flat medium synthetic brush is perfect for this piece too.

Then the coffee table was flipped over and the rest painted.

Two coats were applied to all sides of it.

With the under glass shelf getting 3 coats and this beauty is complete.

The knobs were put back on and the beveled glass cleaned and set in place.
