Let me share my relove of this hand-crafted beauty, a solid pine wall shelf that's been given a new lease on life with a warm white distressed finish. It's a perfect blend of rustic charm and functional design, ideal for adding character and storage to any space.

My sister gifted me this sturdy solid pine wall cabinet, which includes grooved display shelves and a hanging bar at the bottom perfect for towels or quilts. She initially planned to use it in her kids' rooms, but it never came to be. So, she's given it to me so I can relove it for a new family who will appreciate it.
The pine unit had been painted in the past and screwed to the wall in a few places over the years. The screw holes along with the nail holes and natural cracks and divots were filled with DAP premium wood filler. I like to use my flexible off set metal spatula to apply it to the surfaces.
While the wood filler dried it was time to pick the new paint color. These 4 newly released Dixie Belle silk mineral paint Countryside colors were the top contenders. Elderflower (top left, projects done in it linked to name), French villa (top right, projects done in it linked to name), chantilly (bottom left) and highlands (bottom right).
Elderflower was decided upon as it would appeal to many more customers being a classic neutral white. I recently did a chest of drawer in this color and it was scooped up right away.
The wood filler was now dry, so all sides and filled areas were power sanded with my Festool orbital sander ETS REQ 125 using 180 sandpaper to smooth and add a wee bit of texture to the previous paint to allow new paint to adhere to better.
The sanding dust was wiped off with a damp microfiber cloth. Some of the areas required more wood filler and a few new areas found. Wood filler round two was left to dry well again.
However the next day after sanding the wood filler smooth I changed my mind and went with chantilly silk mineral paint. I have yet to try this color and with the cabinet being pine it has a more rustic vibe which I feel pairs better with a warmer white than the modern crisp white elderflower.
I prefer using a 2" angled synthetic brush, particularly when working on pieces that have areas that are difficult to access like crevices, undersides and many corners.
You can see here the last area to be painted over while my shop dog Harley snoozes nearby.
The next day, dry and all ready for the final step.
To maintain the farmhouse/cottage aesthetic, I used a Gator medium/fine sanding sponge. The fine side smoothed the silk paint, while the medium side was used to lightly distress the edges, adding definition and detail characteristic of farmhouse style.
