Classic Black Antique China Cabinet

Does anyone have china dishes anymore? Is it still a thing? Years ago, when I got married, it was all about picking your china pattern and creating a gift registry for the pieces you needed. My pattern was called Chelsea by Royal Doulton, and it was a soft muted floral.

Half Moon or Demi Lune? Antique Table Restore

Demi lune, or half-moon antique tables, were once staples in the smaller homes of yesteryear, beloved for their compact charm. Now, they're making a stylish comeback, perfect for catching keys at the front door, showcasing a plant, or displaying treasured photos. This solid wood cutie has had a few makeovers over the years, with the most recent being mine - a soft sage green, lightly distressed, and finished with dark wax. The result is a beautiful blend of aged elegance and modern color flair.

I was gifted these 2 pieces from a good customer. Thank you Darlene. The half moon table was already partially refinished stripped to the wood surface. The table with magazine rack tutorial is coming soon.

The first step in refinishing is a deep and thorough clean of the piece. Here the 2 are getting scrubbed on every surface with TSP cleaner and some Dawn soap mixed in a bucket then rinsed well with clean water.

To fix the wobbliness of the table, Titebond ultimate wood glue was pushed under the leg edges using my offset metal spatula. (video below) This is one of the most used tools in my shop. I use it to apply wood filler, glue, get in tight spaces and so much more.

Once the glue was put around all the legs and table top, the excess was wiped with damp cloth, the table flipped over and a full gallon of paint sat on top with a newspaper under it to prevent any marks and left to dry overnight.

The next day the table was sturdy. Time to paint. I flipped it upside down which allows me to paint all the undersides of the table first and get a nice clean professional paint line around the legs.

The paint color I chose was the newly released acadia pear from Fusion Mineral Paint.

It is a soft sage green. This all in one paint is fabulous to work with and goes on silky smooth.

The first coat on and drying. This paint covers so well that only one coat was needed.

When it was dry the surface was lightly sponge sanded to smooth the paint effortlessly as well as lightly distress the edges. This flexible sanding sponges makes it easier to get around spindles and narrow spots.

As an added ageing step that also adds more durability to this already amazing all in one paint, I rubbed in ageing Fusion furniture wax with a blue shop towel. Let sit for a bit and buff excess off with a clean blue shop towel and it is complete. Easy peasy.
