Classic Black Antique China Cabinet

Does anyone have china dishes anymore? Is it still a thing? Years ago, when I got married, it was all about picking your china pattern and creating a gift registry for the pieces you needed. My pattern was called Chelsea by Royal Doulton, and it was a soft muted floral.

Rich Navy Wooden Chair Update

This little antique chair has quite a history—seems it was once used as a paint stool and saw bench too, and it was definitely in need of some TLC. After scraping and sanding, I gave it a new lease on life with a stunning coat of navy blue paint. Now, it’s ready to shine as a chair once more!

This is a custom paint job, the chair is from the client's childhood home so has sentimental value but really needs a makeover.

The first thing to do was remove as much of the paint dripped and dropped on the chair as possible so I started with my handy carbide scraper from Richard tools.

Using a carbide scraper to hand scrape the old paint off video

white lightning cleaner in warm water with a bit of dawn dish soap is the perfect scrubbing solution for this chair. Every nook and cranny was scrubbed well. It was then rinsed well and left to dry

When chair was good and dry, it was ready to power sand with my Festool orbital sander on the flat seat surface.

After the sanding, one leg was glued in securely with Titebond ultimate wood glue

Many gouges and dings were filled with DAP wood pro applied with my handy offset metal spatula.

When dry it the areas were power and hand sanded with thin flexible sanding pads. Above shows the sanded top portion of the spindle and lower portion to go.

When painting chairs I always start upside or on its back to paint all the underside aras for a professional looking. paint job. It also prevents forgetting these areas.

The client loves bold colors and requested a navy blue for this chair. Deep sea Dixie Belle silk mineral paint was brushed on using a small round synthetic brush.

Two coats of this rich navy color in total went on the entire chair. this paint has a built in top coat so no more coats are needed especially since this will be used as an occasional accent chair and natural wear is desired.

The client wanted some distressing to keep the aged character of the chair so was sponge sanded all over to give the paint surface a silky smooth feel and the edges were sanded more to reveal the original wood. The legs, back spindles and rungs were given a bit more sanding as well in places that would have worn naturally over the years.

The chair is so lovely and ready to get back being a chair.
