Perfect as a bedside table or accent piece, this nightstand combines warmth, practicality, and modern elegance.
Many pieces are very dirty and need to start with a shop vac detailing even before a scrub
Then proceed with a deep scrub inside out and upside down to get all nooks and crannies. Here I used the spray cleaner and a scrub brush and a warm bucket of water to get in all these areas.
Then the piece is rinsed with clean water and wiped with a towel and left to dry well.
I wanted to stain the top and drawer fronts so started by applying stripper to the top and letting it site.
This finish is very stubborn and here is 4 hours after stripper was applied. I scraped what I could off, neutralized the stripper and let it dry.

The above steps were also done to the drawer fronts. I then moved on to sanding to bare wood with my Festool orbital sander ETS REQ 125 starting at 80 grit and moving to 120.
The same with the top.
Progress moving to 120 grit
I wanted the piece to have a more modern look so this curvy base design had to go. Using a metal yardstick I marked the areas to cut off.
And after watching a couple YouTube videos I gave it a go. It was easy to use.
Now it looks much more modern don't you think?
My orbital sander quickly smoothed the edges.
The first coat I applied was the new light oak color.
This is a very pretty color on this wood. However when dry, the light oak showed the hardware halo still.
I chose the Fusion Mineral Paint {get 10% off your order with this link} color elmwood for the base. It pairs very nicely with the stain color. It is the first time I have tried this color but won't be the last.
This is the first coat of elmwood on.
This step is NOT necessary, I only did it to change the sheen of the wood surfaces. Clear furniture wax was rubbed into the wood surfaces then excess wiped and buffed to a shine about 20 minutes later.
Time for new easy slide feet ...
And the last step is to line the oil stained drawers with some pretty soft neutral floral wall paper I have on hand. It was cut to size, went and smoothed into place.
