French Provincial Nightstand Modern Makeover

This nightstand is part of a charming French Provincial style bedroom set originally crafted by  Malcolm Furniture  here in Canada years ago. One of my valued customers entrusted me with giving this piece a fresh, updated look. She envisions the entire set transformed into a soothing medium grey, perfectly complementing her new home's décor. Given the nightstand's beautiful, solid construction, it was an easy and rewarding decision to invest in revitalizing this quality piece, ensuring it continues to bring beauty and functionality to its new setting.

A perfect blend of craftsmanship, charm, and everyday usefulness.

My eldest daughter gifted me this wood magazine rack a few years back. It sat patiently on the shelf waiting its turn for a glam up!

Structurally it was super solid other than a loose handle that just required a little Titebond ultimate wood glue on each end of the handle and in each hole and tapped back in place.

There were a few dings inthe finish over the years of use that were easily smoothed with a sanding pad.

A damp soft microfiber cloth was then used to wipe away all dust and clean well.

I only wanted to enhance the original dark stained finish so chose a new paint color called hearth from the newly released Dixie Belle Paint mineral paint Curated collection color line.

With the bubble spindles, I used a small round synthetic brush. It fit perfectly in these small areas.

I applied one coat and let it dry overnight.

The next day I lightly distressed the edges and places where the paint will naturally wear with use using a chunky Gator medium/fine sanding sponge.

The large solid shape makes distressing easy and fast. Again a dry microfiber cloth wipes away any dust.

The charcoal hearth color is nice but I wanted it a bit richer so chose clear easy peasy spray wax to get in the tight spaces.

This video shows just how easy.

To add depth and dimension I applied black best dang wax with a French tip brush perfect again to the tight fitting areas.

The unique magazine rack's glow up is complete. If you have a piece that would like a makeover, don't hesitate, it is worth it!
