DIY Furniture Flip: Refinished Solid Maple Dresser in Classic White

In this tutorial, I’m sharing how I completely transformed a   solid maple, Canadian-made dresser   into a fresh, modern piece that’s both timeless and functional. Originally a tired chest of drawers, this sturdy maple beauty got a full makeover — from sanding and priming to a   crisp classic white finish   and   new stainless steel bar and knob hardware . The result? A clean, elegant dresser with   five easy-glide drawers   that looks right at home in any bedroom, guest room, or entryway. Jolie's Malachite Accent Chair


When I saw this cute solid wood chair I knew it would be perfect in a fun color as an accent chair.


As always, a good scrubbing was in order to get off all the dried on food and fingerprints.

I knew the perfect color; malachite from a new paint line I was so excited to try called Jolie Paint

Just look at the fabulous packaging Jolie Paint comes in.

 See navy used on this sweet sofa table and verdigris used on this adorable chair and malachite on this gorgeous jewelry box.


I loved the consistency of this paint and how smooth it went on. Two coats covered perfectly. And even after 2 coats on this chair and painting this sweet jewelry box (blog post coming soon) in the same color, the tester pot still has paint enough to do another project!!


On this chair I tried their suggestion of random brush stroke application. You can see it in the above photo. It gives the chair some added dimension. 

 

On the second coat I did my usual smooth brush strokes then lightly sanded all to smooth a bit and distress the edges for a worn aged feel.

To seal it I used Jolie's clear wax. It too went on easily and has no smell which is nice.


To add just a bit more age I brushed some Fusion's black wax in the nooks and crannies, perfect!! 


This solid wood chair will add a fun punch of color to any room.
