Classic Black Antique China Cabinet

Does anyone have china dishes anymore? Is it still a thing? Years ago, when I got married, it was all about picking your china pattern and creating a gift registry for the pieces you needed. My pattern was called Chelsea by Royal Doulton, and it was a soft muted floral.

Antique Dresser in Ocean Colors & Copper

My long time followers know shades of aquas and blues are my favorite. This antique chest of drawers was given and blended ocean color themed makeover I am loving so much.

The vintage blond dresser was sturdy with simple lines with loads of potential. The hardware (middle drawer had original swapped for test pull) was removed.

And everything was scrubbed well inside an out after shop vacuuming all the dust bunnies out. I use Dixie Belle white lightning cleaner in a bucket of soapy warm water and a scrub brush to clean every  surface then hose with clean water and let dry well.

The smooth shellac finish was scuff sanded and wiped again.

After much contemplation I decided to go with an ocean feel on this dresser and started with this gorgeous greeny blue called The Gulf Dixie Belle Paint

The second coat was The Gulf again but blended with antebellum blue Dixie Belle Paint around the edges. I like to use the Fine Mist Spray Bottle to help blend the colors.

I applied the paint with mini Dixie Belle synthetic brush in a cross hatch pattern to add texture to the smooth surfaces. You can see them in the gulf layer above I hope.

Then on the drawer fronts I repeated the second coat of the color with the additional antebellum blue around the edges.

When the drawers were set in to see it all together I was very pleased.

Once the drawers were put in the edges showed the paint needed to be wider. I used my new Dixie Belle Artist Brushes, mixed the two colors and widened the line.

I like to keep my pieces simple and classic so they can be used for longer then a trendy finish but wanted to add some fun to the drawer edges. I chose this gorgeous native rose Dixie Belle rice decoupage paper. Isn't it so pretty?

I measured the drawer sides and cut the sheet into 6 pieces. The length and width was perfect to get 6  but I did need 8 so had to cut into a second package.

I used the handy Dixie Belle applicator sponge to apply Dixie Belle flat clear coat over the dresser and drawer painted areas to seal. 3 coats were applied and on the last one I continued on with the sponge to apply the same clear coat on the drawer side.

Then the Dixie Belle rice decoupage paper was pressed into place, smoothed out, the edges sanded off and a coat of Dixie Belle flat clear coat sponged over top. I did all drawers on one side and let dry standing on their end.

The next day I flipped the drawers and did the other side the same way except this time I used the Dixie Belle scarlet brush to apply the Dixie Belle flat clear coat.

Press paper in place, brush another coat of clear over the top of the paper.

Use a sanding block to easily trim the paper on the edges.

I am loving this pretty paper that adds such fun to the dresser.

To keep an aged antique feel and add dimension I applied brown Dixie Belle's best dang wax around the edges with a dedicated Dixie Belle premium chip brush.

The original hardware is very unique but has tarnished over the years. It was scrubbed well, dried and spray painted copper.

The color is perfect with the shades of blue.

And once back on the place they look lovely.

Are you a copper fan?
