Walnut MCM Dresser with Warm White Accents

I am a huge wood grain fan and when I find MCM pieces which usually are walnut wood I am thrilled to give them an update. This 6 drawer dresser did not disappoint. The warm white and wood combo is always a favorite of mine. How about you?

Teal Mercury Glass & Lotus Flower Jewelry Chest

Yet another pretty little jewelry box makeover, this gorgeous teal blue with lotus flowers and faux mercury glass is truly one of a kind.

The original finish was in very good condition, just very boring. There is loads of storage and hanging options, perfect too.

Frist step is clean the surface well with a damp cloth and spray cleaner after taking the glass out, drawers out and the old lining.

I chose antebellum blue Dixie Belle Paint for this beauty. I love this color, HERE are other projects I have used it on.

I tried removing the hardware to paint but 2 snapped off, drats!! The search was then on to find replacements.

I used a Dixie Belle Artist Brush to get into the hard to reach areas with the blue paint.

Two coats were brushed on, the second coat is still wet above.

A newly released embroidered lotus flower Dixie Belle transfer looks so pretty with this color. I cut out the designs I wanted and started to lay them out into a pattern that fit the areas.

Once it was all planned the back was removed and the pieces were burnished into place layering as I went along. Both inside cabinets had transfers applied.

The transfers were sealed up with a couple coats of matte  Dixie Belle Terra Seal.

The original glass pieces were done in my usual faux mercury glass treatment using  Rustoleum mirror effect spray paint and vinegar and put back in place.

I have more details and videos on other posts I have done this on.

On the top I added this pretty lotus Dixie Belle stencil applied with pacific Dixie Belle Metallic Moonshine paint.

The edges had zinc Dixie Belle Gilding Wax rubbed on with a finger tips making all the subtle silver accents cohesive and add some shimmer.

The doors open to the pretty lotus designs.

The aged gold door pull blends the mixed metal look perfectly.

And a full all around painted chest allows it to be seen from all sides.

Now to address the missing hardware.

I found these tiny pulls on Amazon and added gold Gilding Wax to make them more like the original. The top has had gold wax added and bottom is original.

Using a find drill bit I drilled pilot holes for the screws.

Put in the screws and tightened.

And this beauty is complete! It is currently available on my Etsy Store

and below is a video tour for you to enjoy!

  1. LeeAnn, you have amazing attention to detail. The mercury glass doors are stunning. I have been wanting to try this myself on a cabinet my husband I built for our kitchen. I wish I had the talent to make over pieces with the amount of detail you put into your pieces. Thank you for sharing with us and sharing with Whimsy Home Wednesday!
