Elegant MCM Tallboy in Cast Iron Black with Natural Wood Accents

Elevate your space with this exquisitely reimagined Mid-Century Modern tallboy chest. Once bearing a pale, dated finish, it now stuns in a rich cast iron black, beautifully contrasted by solid wood drawers finished in a warm, natural stain. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated—from the elegantly updated black hardware to the refined moldings and drawer groove accents. Smooth-gliding feet have been added for effortless movement across both hardwood and carpet. Measuring 34" W x 17.5" D x 40.5" H, this sophisticated piece offers both function and timeless style—an instant statement in any well-appointed room.

Chocolate Fusion Desk

I am not usually a brown painter, to get a rich brown I usually go with stain but Fusion Mineral Paint has a color called chocolate that looked yummy. I chose to try it on this solid maple desk.

The desk was given a good cleaning inside and out with TSP alternative in warm water.

I just bought some painters pyramids and love them for lifting a project off the ground with easy access to the base all around. Now it is time to paint with the luscious Fusion Mineral Paint chocolate color in 2 coats.

After the first coat, I wet distressed the edges to give some added character to the solid paint color

I chose new silver brushed stainless steel pulls and knobs from D Lawless Hardware, perfect

And because it is a desk that will get lots of use on the top I added 3 coats of Fusion Mineral Paint wipe on tough coat with a wet rag to complete the transformation ...

  5. Did you just clean and scuff sand all over? Or did you have to strip to raw wood?
