DIY Furniture Flip: Refinished Solid Maple Dresser in Classic White

In this tutorial, I’m sharing how I completely transformed a   solid maple, Canadian-made dresser   into a fresh, modern piece that’s both timeless and functional. Originally a tired chest of drawers, this sturdy maple beauty got a full makeover — from sanding and priming to a   crisp classic white finish   and   new stainless steel bar and knob hardware . The result? A clean, elegant dresser with   five easy-glide drawers   that looks right at home in any bedroom, guest room, or entryway. Blue and Gold MCM Record Cabinet



I picked this hand crafted Mid Century Modern styled record storage cabinet from an estate sale. It is a solid all wood build with gold hardware that begged for some color.


The top had wear in the original stained finish so step one was to power sand it all smooth with my Dewalt orbital sander and clean the entire cabinet inside and out well with warm water, soap and some TSP .


I chose Fusion Mineral Paint in Liberty blue for it. I have not used this color yet and was excited to try it. I think it is the perfect rich deep blue while still being neutral. Two coats were applied and left to dry overnight. See liberty blue on a mens valet I painted right after.


Another new Fusion product is the metallic paint in pale gold. I think it will look stunning with this deep blue.

After the stencil dried well, I sponge sanded all to smooth the surface and give the stencil a worn look.


The original hardware was cleaned and polished and put back on.



To re-hydrate and restore the wood grain luster inside, I rubbed in Fusion hemp oil. It is easy to apply and rub in and makes the wood glow.


And this beauty is complete!

    Thank you for sharing this. It turned out beautifully. I saw the previous comment about ruining a mid century piece. As much as I adore vintage mid century furniture, there are times that an improvement is necessary, or a change just brings a piece back into style. Repurposing a piece of furniture inspires you to keep using it in my opinion. This post will be a feature this week. #HomeMattersParty

      Thank you Donna for your kind words. I totally agree, if a relove makes the piece put back in action it gives it purpose. AND it always can be changed back to wood or changed to another color update in the future too. This is the beauty of furniture pieces :) Thank you for featuring this cute piece
