Walnut MCM Dresser with Warm White Accents

I am a huge wood grain fan and when I find MCM pieces which usually are walnut wood I am thrilled to give them an update. This 6 drawer dresser did not disappoint. The warm white and wood combo is always a favorite of mine. How about you?

Wooden Bowl Rice Paper Makeover

I have found a new favorite rice paper. Dixie Belle rice decoupage paper called lovely sonnet. It was the perfect addition to the inside on this large monkey pod wooden bowl.

Years ago I painted the inside of this large round bowl my favorite color blue. I wanted the fun pop of color to update the old wooden dish. However after a few months the wood oil soaked thru the paint finish. I put it in a cupboard and left it.

Until the new paper was released. I knew it would look beautiful in this bowl.

For my adhesive medium I chose Dixie Belle satin clear coat. Brush the inside of the bowl making sure to cover every square inch. Then press the paper in place smoothing as you go.

There is a bit of a challenge when applying a flat piece of paper in a curved surface but go slowly pressing the  rice decoupage paper in place.

Make cuts along the sides and overlap or cut out some of the paper making sure to apply more satin clear coat under wherever the paper lays. This will take time so don't rush it. When all paper is smoothed into the bowl cover the top surface with the clear coat as well.

When it is dry the next day I lightly sanded the edges to remove excess paper. Below is a video of how I did this step.

Even with my slow and steady paper adhesion there were a couple of bubble spots. My problem solving brain came up with using a syringe.

It worked perfectly. Inject the air bubble area, press and smooth air out and let dry.

Now to address the wood outside of the bowl. There were a couple of dings on the bottom that I touched up with a stain pen.

Then the outside of the wooden bowl was rehydrated with Dixie Belle Big Mama’s Butta. The butta comes in a few lovely fragrances as well as unscented. Rub a small bit over the wood and buff in.

Here is a video tour for your enjoyment.
