Hi, I am Lee Ann, the creator and refinisher @ Creative Moments.
Creative Moments is all about reloving & recreating furniture and home decor. I give no longer "in style or the right color" furniture/decor a new look to become ONE OF A KIND custom finished pieces.
This blog is dedicated to sharing how these unique pieces were achieved. Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to get all the details right in your inbox. (along the left side in green or via the popup form )
Does anyone have china dishes anymore? Is it still a thing? Years ago, when I got married, it was all about picking your china pattern and creating a gift registry for the pieces you needed. My pattern was called Chelsea by Royal Doulton, and it was a soft muted floral.

Dark to Light Bedroom Set with Mineral Paint
This custom-painted bedroom set has been beautifully transformed from a medium dark stain to a soft, warm white with dark waxed detailing. The intricate dark wax accents highlight the elegant curves and carvings of the furniture, adding depth and character. The soft, warm white finish creates a serene and inviting atmosphere, perfectly capturing the customer’s vision for her updated bedroom. The transformation not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also brings a fresh, modern look to the space, making it a true reflection of her style and taste.
These photos were taken in the customer’s home when she requested custom painting. There are two nightstands and this large dresser, which are already lovely but will look even more beautiful once updated in the color she envisions.
NOTE - there are a ton of photos and videos for this big project, I hope they help see how I updated these pieces
The customer had her own delivery crew as well that took only minutes to get off the truck and into my workspace. Wow!
I had them put the large dresser on my furniture dolly to make easier to move around and work on.
The pieces were cleaned well with spray white lightning cleaner then wiped with clean water after.
The hardware was removed to start on all the pieces.
The large mirror had a work table of its own. This set has an intentional distressed look with faux worm holes and dings.
All the edges and areas where wear and dings made have occurred in the past were sanded smooth with a sanding sponge. Wood filler was used on any areas where needed and sanded smooth once dry as well.
Dixie Belle Bonding Boss is a product that blocks bleed thru, odors etc as well as gives great paint adhesion to slick smooth finishes. It comes in grey, white and clear. Seeing my paint color will be warm white I chose the white bonding boss for this set.
The first coat going on the mirror,
and the nightstands being sure to get the drawer edges as well. I apply it with a premium chip brush.
This is the first coat on the nightstands above and the dresser below. It will look transparent in spots, done worry.
On one of the nightstands there was a couple areas that showed bleed thru. See the yellowing in the crevice?
A second coat was applied to this area. All the boss covered surfaces were sponge sanded smooth.
The faux worm hole finish really shows up once the first white coat went on. White Dixie Belle mud was filled in these areas with an offset spatula then sanded smooth when dry.

Because this is a custom piece, I wanted to be sure there was zero bleed thru on those spots on the nightstand so gave then a blast with Zinsser Bull's Eye spray shellac. It is a sure thing.
Let it dry well before putting on the second boss coat.
Two coats were applied and left to dry 24 hours.
These 4 pieces took 1 full container of Bonding Boss.
Dixie Belle silkmineralpaint in endless shore was the color of choice. This is a favorite color of mine. You can see other projects done in it HERE.
Again after each coat I sponge sand the surfaces to keep it smooth and silky.
The nightstands with their first coat of warm white.
And it going on the end of the big dresser. This angle shows the warmth of the color against pure white.

And the dresser with 1 full coat on.
How I remove paint from a mirror video
Another area with the faux worm holes was found and filled then sanded.
The drawer edges were painted as well with the drawers left in.
But they needed to be removed to paint in the inner edges with an Artist Brush.
The large dresser had all the drawers taken out to do the inner edges as well.
I always like to paint under the edges everywhere including the bottom. Laying the nightstands on their back allows this to ve done as well as get fully around the feet.
And there were more intentional distressed areas showing thru the paint that now can be seen. Again fill and sand before the next coat. Two plus more touchups of the endless shore paint was brushed on.
video steps
The original hardware was cleaned and it looks lovely with the new paint color don't you think?
The pulls were all put back on
all the pieces.
Brown best dang wax was applied around the edges to add dimension.
waxing video steps
You can see it on above left and plain paint right.
This is the other side of them.
Here is a 4 minute VIDEO of me dark waxing the pieces

The ornate details on the mirror corners really pop with the wax
This is what the pieces looked like now and sent to the customer to check out.
lots of photos were sent to her on vacation in Palm Springs :)
A video tour of the pieces currently lightly dark waxed.
She liked them but wanted MORE dark waxing details for a more aged look. This is the benefit of custom pieces - the customer can see the steps and ask for more. And it is always easier to add more than take it off.
sharing more dark wax videos with the customer
More brown wax was added to all pieces
This was exactly what she envisioned :)
This set is big and heavy so I did not haul it into my home to stage.
These photos do show the end result pretty well though.
The moving crew was back to pick up. This time it took longer as they carefully wrapped the pieces in clear wrap and moving blankets.
Then were off to deliver it back to her home. Here are photos of the pieces in her home.
