Pier One to Pottery Barn Trunk Makeover

A client brought in this Pier One trunk/coffee table to be painted. They wanted the finished product to be in the style of Pottery Barn furniture. The result was just what they envisioned. Now this updated, custom painted trunk/coffee table is ready to go back home and give them years of service.

Blue Green and Gold Damask Jewelry Box

Jewellery boxes make the perfect blank canvas to create a one of a kind look. I love taking these creations from boring to unique. It's also allows me to be able to test out different paint and product combinations.

I picked up this generic jewelry box at our local thrift store. The dark cherry colored wood and grey interior is very "vanilla" and could use a new look.

The box was cleaned well with a damp cloth and spray cleaner, lightly sanded with a sanding sponge to lightly scuff the surface and wiped of any sanding dust.

Using a small flat synthetic brush, I applied the newly released blue grass color from Dixie Belle Paint to the wooden box.

Here is the first coat on, two coats were applied in total.

It took allot of time looking thru my transfers and stencils but finally I decided to use this classic beautiful filigree  silk screen stencil.

I peeled back half of the silk screen stencil and pressed the sticky side in place where I wanted it ont he jewelry box top.

Gold digger Metallic Moonshine paint was brushed over the stencil

And this is the beautiful design revealed as the stencil was removed. The sticky surface keeps the stencil in place perfectly. The stencil itself is easily washed and can be used multiple times.

In keeping with the gold accents I chose the newly released gold marker to outline the hearts on the drawer fronts as well as along all the edges.

The gold marker is perfect to add more shine to the metal hardware. I placed a piece of cardboard underneath the pulls just in case the marker slipped off the edge.

I love the gold with this new blue grass color, how about you?

The door glass was cleaned and given a faux mercury type finish using gold Rustoleum spray paint and vinegar.

Usually I do this finish with silver mirror spray paint but gold was needed for this project just like I used it on this pink Cancer charity jewelry box.

The warm white IKEA dresser was the perfect place to take these photos.

  1. A beautiful transformation. I lean more to silver tones than gold but this is a nice combo. It will look great on any dresser.
