Walnut MCM Dresser with Warm White Accents

I am a huge wood grain fan and when I find MCM pieces which usually are walnut wood I am thrilled to give them an update. This 6 drawer dresser did not disappoint. The warm white and wood combo is always a favorite of mine. How about you?

Vintage Chalkboard from Artist Frame

You know I love a good solid wood frame update and usually they become chalkboards. Chalkboards are so multipurpose in the home.

This large wooden frame displayed a faded print sans glass but the detailing in the wood was lovely.

I like to repurpose everything I can so my first plan was to paint the print with my usual blackboard paint.

But you can see when it dried there was an area of bubbly, time for plan B.

Flipping it over I cut the paper backing to reveal the cardboard backing. This was removed after taking out all the wee nails.

I cut a new piece of hardboard to fit the frame. Black chalkboard paint applied in 4 coats and our chalkboard surface is complete.

Now to paint the frame. I chose the pretty blue color harbor from the NEW Dixie Belle silk paint line. I brushed it on with the flat medium Dixie Belle synthetic brush.

I wet distressed the wee edge that had the gold to give the frame some sparkle. And to add some age I applied Dixie Belle's best dang wax in black with a dedicated Dixie Belle chip brush I use for wax. I have a Dixie Belle chip brush for each wax color.

See above how the black wax deepens the blue color? And below once the excess wax is wiped back with a blue shop towel it leaves an aged finish (bottom edge, left edge is yet to wax).

The chalkboard center was put back in the frame, the cardboard backing was nailed back in place and this vintage beauty is ready to inspire bearing notes, inspiration quotes or fun drawings.

What do you think?
