From Gilded to Grounded: A Standing Jewelry Armoire's Dark Moody Transformation

Sometimes, a "bright and airy" makeover just doesn’t fit the vibe. I found this standing jewelry armoire after it had already been given a white and gold facelift by someone else, but it felt a bit too "glam" for many people. I knew it had the potential to be something much more sophisticated, mysterious, and—of course— moody . In this tutorial, I’m taking you through the process of retaining some of the previous DIY and layering on a deep, velvety dark green finish. We’ll be leaning into those shadows, highlighting the unique curved silhouette. Whether you're looking to tone down a piece that's "too bright" or you're ready to embrace the dark academia aesthetic, here is how I turned a high-contrast piece into a seamless, moody masterpiece.

Deep Sea Blue Mens Valet





 This double decker wooden men's valet was completed in classic navy just in time for Father's day which is coming soon.


Men's valets are always popular items I think do to the update and the fact more men like to have storage for all their treasures.

I have painted quite a few but have yet to find a double drawer one. You can find the others HERE.

As always the first step is to give it a thorough cleaning inside and out. I have Dixie Belle white lightening cleaner mixed in a spray bottle that I mist on and wipe well .The valet was lightly sanded with a Dixie Belle sanding sponge to smooth the surface and give a bit of grip for the paint. Everything is wiped again with a clean damp cloth.


I chose classic navy for the exterior color to coordinate with the goldy yellow lining interior. That and you can never go wrong with navy right?

I chose the new Dixie Belle silk paint line color called deep sea; a rich navy blue. I was also using this gorgeous color on this funky MCM desk .


This silk paint has a built in primer and top coat making it a great one step paint. Two coats were brushed on using a Dixie Belle French tip brush on all sides. And that is it! Done!
