Vintage High Chair in Natural Wood and Warm White

  I love giving old pieces new life. This vintage wooden high chair was my latest makeover project. I am loving the end look, how about you? This solid wood cutie was found by my furniture scouting sister. I messaged the seller sight unseen I would take it. My Mom picked it up and delivered to my door. THANKS family for all your help!

Father's Day Charcoal Valet

 

This double drawer men's valet was given a classic black rustic farmhouse update ready to serve once again. Just in time for Father's Day too!


I picked it up at a local thrift store along with a few other treasures. The jumbo jewelry box was painted a pretty green, as was the solid wood magazine rack, the basket and wooden crates went to our new travel trailer and the other goodies are awaiting their turn to be made over.


First step was to carefully remove the hardware and give it a good cleaning.


It is now all clean and ready to update. I love the creativity of the wee pegs for the front supports.


The lined drawers were coming loose so they were glued and clamped and left to dry.

When dry there was marks in the one divided drawer and the color was not the prettiest so I brushed on some Dixie Belle silk mineral paint in cactus; a soft green misting the lining with water from a Fine Mist Spray Bottle to allow the paint to absorb easily and not be hard as I went. This was repeated for a second coat.

The drawers were missing a stop at the back inside to keep them in place so I cut a new one and glued in place. This was clamped and left to dry overnight.


Here is the new drawer stop in place.

For the exterior I chose black sands Dixie Belle silk mineral paint. After the first coat dried all was sanded smooth and lightly distressed with a Dixie Belle sanding sponge.


Two coats of the charcoal black were painted on in total and the same sanding and distressing done again. Sanding after the first coat allows you to see where you like the edges distressed and makes the second sanding easier.


I like to paint the edges underneath as well for a nice finished look.


Inside the valet, Dixie Belle Big Mama’s Butta was applied to hydrate the wood and make the drawers slide smoothly. It also adds a nice scent too. I chose flannel scent for this project as it is a masculine fragrance.


The hardware was put back on as well as 4 new felt feet were put on the bottom to finish off the makeover.

    New life for an old boy! Love your detail like replacing the missing stop. Beautifully done. Will look great on someone's dresser.
