Stenciled Deck Rug

We built our new house in the middle of a prairie hay field. This means we have a ton of wind at least until all our planted trees mature in about 10 years!! I have always wanted a beautiful deck with a pretty rug but unless it was nailed down and was pet hair proof it is not going to happen. I can however have a painted/stenciled one. Here is how I did it ... Using this large prosperity mandala stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils  and Fusion Mineral Paint I created the rug of my dreams. Like any painted project, prep is needed.. first step was to sweep and scrub my deck where I planed to put the new "rug". Cactus & Magnolias End Table

How about this delightful transformation of a once bedraggled end table? With a charming coat of sage green paint and a beautiful magnolia transfer, it’s now brimming with new life and character.

First step was to clean well with white lightning cleaner, rinse and dry well.

Originally this was my plan to update it but once out of the package the autumn harvest transfer was too large of scale for the table top. The paint color I chose was cactus Dixie Belle silk mineral paint.

The hardware was missing so the holes were filled with white Dixie Belle mud and when dry sanded smooth.

Prior to using silk paint the piece needs a light scuff sanding, this gives the paint something to stick to followed by a good wipe down.

Cactus silk mineral paint is brushed on with a medium flat synthetic brush. I like to start with the table upside down to paint the underside of the top edges and have better access to the the legs and apron. Then flip it over and do the top.

The Dixie Belle transfer I chose for this table was from the retired magnolia set. Once you find the placement ,remove the white paper and press into place slowly removing the top plastic and rubbing in place with the included stick.

Brown best dang wax was brushed around the transfer and the edges with a French tip brush
to give a worn weathered vibe.

Then the transfer was sealed with 3 coats of Terra Seal, This is matte finish which works lovely with the silk paint.
