Vintage High Chair in Natural Wood and Warm White

I love giving old pieces new life. This vintage wooden high chair was my latest makeover project. I am loving the end look, how about you? This solid wood cutie was found by my furniture scouting sister. I messaged the seller sight unseen I would take it. My Mom picked it up and delivered to my door. THANKS family for all your help!

Rustic Kids Table and Chair Set

Bold, bright and better ... don't you think?

This lightweight solid wood kids set has seen better days. It needed a makeover and ASAP.

First step was to scrub it all clean to prep for the next steps.

This was a gorgeous day in November, not typical for Canada.. it totally called for the table to be hauled outside and power sanded back to the bare wood.

The rest of the table edges and the chairs were hand sanded to smooth all the chips and dings with a Dixie Belle sanding sponge .

Even though it is wood sanding passed these dings would take away too much surface wood. Some of the deeper dings were left to keep a rustic country feel for the set.

I wanted to try my newest color of Dixie Belle Voodoo Gel Stain called temptress.

I love it!

The base and chairs were painted a coat of Dixie Belle paint called mermaid tail using one of my favorite brushes; my pointed sash Staalmeester.

Everything was left to dry.

Lesson learned: Once dry I found that pouring the stain in a circle was NOT the thing to do, see the halo of where it was?

Wanting to add more rustic charm to the piece I layered a coat of tobacco road Dixie Belle Voodoo Gel Stain. When it dried another coat of the temptress was applied, lightly sanded and a coat of Dixie Belle Gator Hide was put on with a Dixie Belle applicator sponge to seal it all well.

And over the mermaid tale a coat of Dixie Belle paint in pure ocean.

Again they were left to dry. Do you think the table top is too green now? I did.

Wanting to add more green back to the chairs to go with the top I mixed the mermaid tail into the Dixie Belle's best dang wax in clear. All the painted areas and the stained top were waxed using it.

To add even more rustic country character Dixie Belle's best dang wax in brown was brushed in the creases and along the edges after distressing them with a Dixie Belle sanding sponge. See it on the left chair above and only the tinted clear on right.

The table top still seemed too green.

I dry brushed some of the pure ocean over it and it looks fabulous! More of the tinted wax was wiped over it to seal.

The entire set has a bold ocean coloring that oozes rustic country.

Just look at the variation of color in that top!
