DIY Furniture Flip: Refinished Solid Maple Dresser in Classic White

In this tutorial, I’m sharing how I completely transformed a   solid maple, Canadian-made dresser   into a fresh, modern piece that’s both timeless and functional. Originally a tired chest of drawers, this sturdy maple beauty got a full makeover — from sanding and priming to a   crisp classic white finish   and   new stainless steel bar and knob hardware . The result? A clean, elegant dresser with   five easy-glide drawers   that looks right at home in any bedroom, guest room, or entryway. Blue Jean Finish Jewelry Box


I bought this jewelry box painted as shown below. The painted finish had been scratched in storage so needed a fresh coat. However I did not have the matching paint nor did I want to keep the baby blue so I decided to create a new worn denim finish using the light blue as the base coat. what do you think?  Does it look like a pair of old worn jeans to you?


The previous paint color was done well with just a few clean up areas requiring my razor scraper and sanding.


Then it was all wiped clean well with a damp cloth and spray cleaner. The interior was vacuumed well too.


The hardware was removed making painting easier.
 

I used my new Dixie Belle French tip brush. It was perfect for this size project with lots of small surfaces to paint. Dixie Belle Paint "in the navy"; a pretty dark blue color was brushed on.


The newly painted surfaces looked like the bottom drawer. To get a worn denim feel I lightly sanded with my handy Dixie Belle sanding sponge to reveal some of the light blue and the wood as shown in the top drawer.


The entire jewelry box was painted front and back leaving the soft blue on the interior for a bit of fun.


To add further denim jean effects the entire chest was sealed with white Dixie Belle's best dang wax. The white wax is on the left and the sanded navy paint alone on the right.


The mirrors and glass were polished and put back on along with the hardware.

    I n the Navy is a beautiful color. I
    sometimess add. a little Bunker Hill and Savannah Most to make a faded denim look. I have been collecting jewelry boxes to paint too. Thank you for the inspiration.
