The Gift to Grow With

Were wood prices skyrocketing where you live? They sure were here in western Canada. That and the lumber available was warped and split after being picked over but finally I sourced a nice 1"X8"X6' board for a custom growth ruler. It is a gift for a dear friends baby who was welcomed into the world recently.

I love custom growth rulers because they truly are a gift that lasts for years and marks many memories. They can easily be taken when moving unlike the marks on a door frame or wall. A great gift that you grow along with :)

The lumber has the wax scraped off each end and sanded as the first step.

Dixie Belle No Pain Gel Stain in weathered gray was the perfect color for the ruler. I applied it using the Dixie Belle applicator pad for a nice smooth application.

One coat was all that was needed to get the rustic look I desired. It was left to dry overnight.

The next day Dixie Belle Paint in the color cotton was stenciled on using the Muddaritaville Studio's growth ruler stencil.
