Walnut MCM Dresser with Warm White Accents

I am a huge wood grain fan and when I find MCM pieces which usually are walnut wood I am thrilled to give them an update. This 6 drawer dresser did not disappoint. The warm white and wood combo is always a favorite of mine. How about you?

Traditional Farmhouse Pedestal Dining Table

You know I love reloving dining tables and here is another one I intended to do for our home but after sharing the finished results it too was sold.

I love old pedestal tables that go from round to oval.

Classic oak round pedestal table with leaf, yes please!

It is a favorite style I can never pass up.

And it also had 6 press back chairs which further sealed the deal. More on them in another tutorial.

As always the first step of prep is to deep clean the table.

My trusty carbide scraper from Richard tools worked perfect to remove previous refinishing drips from the underside of the table edge.

I did not notice this crack along the base until I was unloading but it was repaired with wood glue and clamps. Using my handy offset spatula to get the glue right in and all along the crack works perfect.

Clamp from all sides, wipe off excess glue with damp rag and allow to dry well overnight.

Wood filler was added where needed and sanded smooth when dry.

The top of the dining table was lightly sanded with a sanding sponge and wiped well.

To refresh the dark stained top I used the last of the discontinued antiquing Fusion Tough Coat applied with a damp applicator sponge.

Allowing each coat to dry then lightly sanded with a sanding sponge 3 coats were applied in total. After a few days the top was sanded with a paper bag and a coat of clear Fusion Furniture Wax applied for a soft sheen.

The base and table apron were painted in Dixie Belle Paint color fluff.

I used the flat medium Dixie Belle synthetic brush to apply for a smooth finish.

Two full coats were applied for the perfect coverage.

When dry everything was sanded again with the sanding sponge to give the paint a soft buttery feel and distress the edges lightly to keep the aged look.

To further enhance that aged feel brown Dixie Belle's best dang wax was brushed in all the nooks and crannies with a dedicated Dixie Belle premium chip brush.

no wax left and brown wax right

Complete and back together looking amazing!

  3. I have the same table, you did exactly what I want to do. Did you do anything besides clean the base before you painted it? In other words, I should sand the top so I can stain it, but if I am painting the pedestal base, I don't need to sand it? Yes, I am a novice! Ant Diane

    1. Hi Diane, so it all depends on the finish of your table, if it is old and worn you can paint over it, scuff sanding a newer finish helps paint adhere. The paint also makes a difference, this paint will adhere to all types of surfaces, not all do. Now to the top again it depends on product used. Traditional stain requires sanding to bare wood, this particular top was in good condition so was only scuff sanded and repolyed with a tinted poly. I hope this helps, more questions just ask.
