Do you remember the old tins from days gone by that had flowers on them? I think they were usually cannister sets. My sister in law gifted me treats in a shiny new silver tin that I envisioned looking like these old beauties. Here is how I recreated the look.
This is the super shiny tin I was gifted. It was just wiped with a damp micro cloth to be sure no fingerprints or dust was on the surface.
The secret to painting shiny smooth glossy surfaces is
Dixie Belle Slick Stick. This product allows paint to stick to anything.
Stir well (I use chopsticks we always seem to have in excess) and brush on 2 coats then let dry 24 hours.
This is the second coat, there is also a square plant pot added to the projects. Allow the slick stick to dry 24 hours.
Allow this to dry overnight too.
Now for the fun part; the vintage floral Dixie Belle transfers
were cut into pieces and a layout created. Each one was placed where I wanted it and rubbed with the stick to adhere to the surface.
To age the tin I added brown
best dang wax to the edges, creases and surface.
I am a HUGE peony fan so this
transfer was perdfect.
This tin is perfect to use as a canister, treat bucket, to hid remotes or other things out of sight, the storage ideas are endless.
