No Strip or Sand Stained Dining Chairs

I wanted new dining chairs for my own home to go with our antique Duncan Phyfe style dining table  I restored. Previously we had leather parson's chairs but I have always loved the look of wooden pressback chairs so this is what I chose to replace them with. And I am going to stain them WITHOUT stripping and sanding! I had 2 sets of press back chairs in my stock to paint, now to decide which set. My husband and I did a comfort sitting test and of course visual and went with the slightly larger ones on the left. This set also has 2 captains chairs as a bonus.

This vintage beauty was ready for a bright makeover. First step was to remove the hardware, vacuum it all well, sand rough areas then give it a good scrubbing everywhere.

Before painting, I slide paper under the edges to protect the glass as removing it would be very difficult and possibly break if removed.

Here is a closeup of the protective paper.

To give a fresh farmhouse white update I chose Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain.

Two coats and the paper was removed. Inside the hutch and base, the original wood was revived with Homestead House hemp oil which made the wood shine.

To keep the feel vintage, the ornate details and edges were lightly distressed. See above left side done and the right not.

And to further the vintage look Fusion Mineral Paint's ageing wax  was brushed on.

Here it is complete on the right side and just Champlain on left.

It really makes these ornate details pop!

The glass was cleaned inside and out.

I added some pretty pieces and staged it in my garage as it was so large.

There is a light in the hutch cabinet that adds a bit of drama and highlights the displayed treasures.

The ornate doors fold back

to reveal the spacious storage area and lined divided drawer.

So many great storage spaces in this beauty.
