Classic Black Antique China Cabinet

Does anyone have china dishes anymore? Is it still a thing? Years ago, when I got married, it was all about picking your china pattern and creating a gift registry for the pieces you needed. My pattern was called Chelsea by Royal Doulton, and it was a soft muted floral.

Terra Clay Paint Faux Tin Tiles

My faux tin tile orders seem to go in waves, this is recent order is done in Dixie Belle Terra Clay Paint blue agave and copper. Not long after I had a set of 4 ordered in the same colors/pattern. Let me share this color creation with you.

For the first one I tried a new combination of products to make the raised stencil. I mixed Dixie Belle Sea Spray and umber Dixie Belle silk mineral paint to make a thick "paste".

This paste was applied over the stencil then the stencil lifted to reveal the pattern. However there were many places the paste did not adhere to the hardboard surface.

I share this with you as yet another learning lesson I had even after 10 years doing this. But there is always a solution to every problem.

I scraped the paste off and tossed, sanded the surface smooth and applied a couple coats of Dixie Belle Slick Stick over the hardboard surface and let dry well.

In the background you can see a serving tray I was also applying slick stick on as well.

The same steps from above were repeated with coffee bean replacing the umber in the paste mix then once dry a coat of coffee bean Dixie Belle Paint was brushed over the entire tile surface with a Dixie Belle premium chip brush. I love these super affordable natural bristles brushes for so many painting tasks.

The next color to go on was Dixie Belle Terra Clay Paint in blue agave again with another Dixie Belle premium chip brush. It is in stages of drying above. This clay paint dries quite fast and lighter when it does.

I started another one as well, you can see the other one drying in the background. The same steps were repeated on both.

Coffee bean was blended back in areas too. The Dixie Belle Terra Clay Paint is perfect for blending as you just mist with a Fine Mist Spray Bottle and the colors blend like a dream.

To add a worn look and reveal some of the dark raised stencil a Dixie Belle sanding sponge was used to lightly sand the surface. The soft sponge side easily wipes the dust off.

The layers of paint are sealed next with Dixie Belle satin clear coat applied with yet another premium chip brush. Trust me, order a few as they are so handy.

Now to age the tile surface with some brown Dixie Belle's best dang wax. I have 2 dedicated brown wax brushes; a Dixie Belle French tip brush and a premium chip brush.

To add a metallic look to the tiles copper and bronze Dixie Belle Gilding Wax were added using my finger tip. I love my finger for just the right amount of control to hit the raised edges. And being a water based product it easily washes off with soap and water.

As the last step for these tiles I added an additional coat of satin clear coat. Dixie Belle has the only wax products I know that are water based and can be clear coated over. Most waxes are oil based and adding a clear coat would be repelled but not with these products. the tiles now have a smooth satin finish over the entire surface.
